Senior Citizens to be the Main Housing Recipients in Swellendam

A number of senior citizens in Buffeljagsrivier, Swellendam will receive their new houses from the Provincial Human Settlements Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela on Monday, 3 August 2015. The 15 beneficiaries who will receive keys are all in their early fifties.

This housing development consists of two separate portions, namely Site A and Site B. Site A comprises 75 erven, of which ten erven were already occupied and were recently fully serviced under the civil portion of this project. Further on this project, there are the 57 new residential erven, one business erf, one community facility and six public open spaces. The housing scheme was fundamentally meant to assist persons in the Strykyster informal settlement.

The Strykyster community members were living in vulnerable conditions such as extreme weather conditions and flood risk. The 15 beneficiaries who will receive houses are all from the Strykyster informal settlement. The Provincial department of Human Settlements has spent a budget of over R7 million on this project.

The handover will take place in Buffeljagsrivier, Swellendam.
