Media Alert: Minister Ivan Meyer to Launch Library Week

14 March 2013

Tomorrow, 15 March 2013, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer, together with the Mayor of Swartland Municipality, Alderman Tijmen van Essen and Darling’s most famous citizen, Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout will officially launch South African Library Week (SALW) 2013 at the Darling North Municipal Library in Darling. Themed Educate Yourself @ Your Library SALW will be celebrated from 16 March 2013 - 23 March 2013.

According to The Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), the concept of lifelong learning is embodied in all libraries especially public and community libraries. The fact that any person, young or old, rich or poor, employed or unemployed, can walk into a library and find information (in both electronic and traditional formats) to educate and enrich themselves, is one of the major plusses in the favour of libraries.

In keeping with the theme of the day Minister Meyer will be handing over a donation of books to the Early Learning Project as well as the Parental Learning Project which are both run under the auspices of the Darling Trust.
