On Thursday, 31 January 2013, the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer announced the winners of the Eden and West Coast Festival showcased at the Artscape, Suidoosterfees. This forms part of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport’s initiative to develop and promote young and aspiring actors within these communities.
The Eden and West Coast Festival is a partnership between the Suidoosterfees and the Western Cape Government aimed at creating a platform to showcase and promote local and rural theatre.
This event was preceded by four drama festivals of which two was held in Eden and the other two in the West Coast. Two winners from each district were subsequently chosen to represent their regions at the Suidoosterfees. The four regional winners competing included:
1. ComNet (Clanwilliam)
2. Joey Monroe Productions (George)
3. Janeske Rademan (Piketberg)
4. Redlight 7 (Plettenberg Bay)
The following prizes were awarded by Minister Meyer at the event:
Best director: Magdaleen Van Zyl
Runner up: Janeske Rademan
Best actor: Tsepho Julian van der Westhuizen
Best actress: Olivia Pika
Overall winner: ComNet of Clanwilliam for the production “Kinders van die Asgat”
Thanks to Danie Odendaal productions, the winning actor and actress will appear as guests in the popular well-known TV series, 7de Laan.
The winning production “Kinders van die Asgat” will be showcased at the Suidoosterfees on Sunday, 3 February 2013 at the Artscape between 10:00 and 11:00. Tickets are available at R 35.00.
