Media Alert: Minister Madikizela to Lay Bricks for Special Needs Houses

The Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements, Bonginkosi Madikizela, will lay the first bricks for hosues for two beneficiaries with special needs in iLitha Park, Khayelitsha.

The two beneficiaries, Mr Dlamini Mdingiswayo and Mr Ralf Miggels, have approved subsidies and Corobrick has made a commitment to supply all the bricks for the two houses on land supplied by the Department.

Mr Mdingiswayo is a disabled person who is married and has a son who is 18 years old. Mr Mdingswayo has one leg amputated and is wheel chair bound. His wife also suffered a stroke approximately 15 years ago. They are all staying in a shack in Khayelitsha. The son is writing his Matric exams this year.

Mr Miggel was involved in a motor vehicle accident in 1997. He sustained a spinal cord injury and is now a C5 tetraplegic which means he is paralysed in the arms and legs.  Mr Miggel is currently staying on the third floor of rented council flat in Elsies River.  As a disabled person he encounters extreme difficulties to get to the ground floor and back to his flat. Mr Miggels wife is his caretaker and they both survive on a government Disability grant.
