Media Alert: Schools World Aids Day Event

30 November 2012

The Western Cape Education Department’s Metro North Education District will mark World Aids Day on Saturday, 1 December 2012, by hosting an HIV/Aids Life Skills Programme.

The event, at the district office in Parow, will provide an opportunity for learners and teachers to promote healthy lifestyles and to increase access to information about HIV/Aids.

About 250 learners, who are members of Soul Buddyz clubs at primary schools in the Metro North Education District, are expected to attend the World Aids Day event. The Soul Buddyz Project is a partnership between the Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication, SABC Education and is supported by the National Department of Education.

Primary schools were requested to nominate five buddies per club and a life orientation teacher to attend the event. The programme includes dramas, plays, songs, poems and rap performances around the theme "Stop the Clock".

Learners and facilitations will receive certificates of attendance.

Date: 1 December 2012
Venue: Metro North Education District Office, Timmerman Street, Parow
