R55 million Social Housing Project Launch

Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will represent the Western Cape Government at the Bothasig Gardens Social Housing Project Launch on the 20thof November 2012. Minister Madikizela, along with National Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale, and City of Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille, will all deliver remarks at the opening. 4 Units will be ceremonially handed over to beneficiaries.

The R55 million Bothasig Gardens Social Housing project is a public/private partnership between the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements, City of Cape Town, the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA), Communicare, and the Dutch Stichting International Gurantee for Housing (DIGH).

The project is located in Bothasig, Milnerton and will provide 120 Social Rental Housing opportunities for families earning between R2200 and R7500 per month. The project is being integrated with an existing Seniors complex named Kent Durr consisting 165 units. The overall development will be named Bothasig Gardens and will comprise 285 units in total.

Communicare, an accredited Social Housing Institution, is the owner of the land and the units in the complex. Communicare will be directly responsible for the ongoing property management of the units in the proposed project, including rental collection, maintenance and ensuring compliance with neighbourhood rules, as well as social development programmes.

Construction of the Project commenced in November 2011 and was completed on the 22nd October 2012.
