Healthy Lifestyle Encouraged Through Fitness Improvement Initiative

2 November 2012

Sunshine and relaxed musical vibes welcomed participants at the public aerobics session in Cape Town’s Company Gardens on Friday, 2 November 2012. This was the final session of the fitness improvement movement at this venue before it is rolled out at various train stations next year.

These exercise sessions form an integral part of an initiative by Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer, to bring people together in pursuit of a healthy lifestyle and to promote productivity in the workplace. The Minister said the aim of this initiative was to create a physically fit Cape Town and Western Cape.

Earlier this year the initiative was started by the Western Cape Government to actively promote the concept of healthy living and healthy lifestyles in the province. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport wish to thank those that shaped up their lives by joining these sessions.

The sessions, introduced during Women’s Month, August, had a positive impact on the lives and work of participants. Ms Agnetha Jeftha of the Directorate: Sport Promotion, who attended all of the sessions, said that it was well-received by the participants. “This initiative definitely created excitement amongst our colleagues from the various departments. It’s just a pity that it has to end today. Hopefully we’ll be able to attract more participants at the train stations next year,” she added.
