Western Cape Golf Course Listed Top Ten in the World

8 October 2012

Fancourt Golf Resort in George has been listed by CNN as one of the world's ten best golf resorts and the leading golf resort in Africa. Other golf resorts included in the list are: Pinehurst, USA; Kiawah, USA; Pebble Beach, USA; The American Club, USA; The Old Course Hotel – St Andrews, Scotland; The K-Club, Ireland; Sotogrande, Spain; Mission Hills, China, and Quinta do Lago, Portugal.

According to CNN International's travel website, CNNgo, Fancourt was chosen because of its three great golf courses, luxurious accommodation, great dining and its location in the Garden Route, the heart of South Africa's wine-growing region.

Minister Alan Winde said: "A hearty congratulations to Fancourt. This accolade bears testament to the hard work put in by the staff at Fancourt in delivering a world-class venue. Fancourt has in the past played host to international golf tournamanets such as the President's Cup, the South African Open and the Volvo Golf Champions Tournament. International events such as these pour revenue not only to the host venue itself but also the surrounding communities and businesses."

"This is the second time this year CNN has listed a destination in the Western Cape as one of the best in the world. Earlier this year, Cape Town was listed by CNN as one the best loved cities in the world. The international exposure that such accolades give to our destination is priceless," Minister Winde added.
