A Museum Where Cultures Meet

27 September 2012

The Bartolomeu Dias Museum, PetroSA and various community organisations will celebrate Heritage Month with a range of exhibitions and artistic performances on Friday, 28 September 2012.

Residents of Kenani and Benevolent Park, two old age homes in the Mossel Bay area, will have the opportunity to showcase their musical and artistic talent. They will reflect on their own history and cultural identities.

Mr Mbulelo Mrubata of the museum says that the celebrations aim to enhance social inclusion and unity in diversity. “We know for a fact that music has no age, culture, gender, race, as well as language boundaries; it cuts across all these distinctions,” he said.

Four community choirs will entertain the audience with their sweet melodies. Mrubata says that members of the general public regard the museum as the only cultural heritage resource which showcases the cultural history of all the residents of Mossel Bay. It is envisaged that this event will largely contribute to the nurturing of social inclusivity in the area.
