Netball is Growing on the West Coast

30 August 2012

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport believes that netball can move to greater heights on the West Coast. At the opening of the Inter-Regional Development Netball Tournament on Friday, 24 August 2012, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer, praised the West Coast Netball Union for taking up the challenge of hosting this contest for the first time. The tournament took place from 24 - 25 August at the West Coast High School in Saldanha Bay.

Dr Meyer told the 180 participants from Western Province, Boland, South Western District and the West Coast that he was aware that becoming a good netball player required practice over a period of time, and encouraged the players to use this opportunity to develop their skills. "Netball needs more support on the West Coast, and I believe this is only the beginning," he said.

Ms Madelein Horn, president of the West Coast Netball Union, thanked the department, the federations and the players for working together in a partnership to develop netball in the Western Cape and looked forward to two days of exciting games.
