Aerobic Sessions Created Better Together Excitement

2 September 2012

Aerobic sessions led by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) created excitement amongst staff and helped them to work better together during Women's Month.

The final session of this initiative took place on Friday, 31 August 2012. Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer thanked DCAS staff as well as members of the public who attended these sessions on Friday mornings in the Company Gardens in Cape Town.

He said the sessions had had a positive impact on the quality of the work of his staff and thanked the Provincial Gymnasium team for its role in helping people to live a healthier lifestyle. The department intends to roll out public aerobics sessions at train stations over the next few months.

Agnetha Jeftha of the Sport Promotion directorate said attending these public exercise sessions brought her closer to people in her office. "During the week, everyone at our directorate would buzz with excitement about attending the Friday sessions, and we've encouraged and supported one another," she said.

She added that this experience had brought the value of regular exercise to her attention, as well as the importance of developing healthy eating habits.

Three aerobic classes are currently taking place at the gym during the week and staff members are encouraged to shape up and join in.
