Provincial Spatial Development Framework Consultative Summit.

Provincial Minister of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Tasneem Essop addressed the media on, Thursday November 25 at the Provincial Spatial Development Framework Consultative Summit.

The summit, was held on Monday, November 29 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. It reported on and debated the findings and outcomes of the initial phases of the Provincial Spatial Development Framework project and other supportive projects i.e.the state of the environment, the growth potential of towns, the investigation into golf course estates, the Integrated Law Reform project and revealed the effects and imbalances of bad Apartheid-era spatial planning within communities.

The PSDF sought to address Apartheid spatial planning in the Western Cape, and to provide a detailed map indicating areas of economic growth and areas with potential for growth.
The PSDF, in supporting the objectives of Ikapa Elihlumayo mapped the location, type and intensity of intervention required.
It also assisted in identifying more achievable municipal Intergrated Development Plan proposals, and provided the context for municipal spatial development frameworks.
In striving to create a home for all, the PSDF also indicated the best locations for sustainable human settlements.
It showed the connection between social, environmental and economic activity and promoted the "triple bottom line".
The PSDF will impact on how, where and on what this Government spends money. It pointed the private and public sector to suitable investment areas.

Three hundred representatives from a range of organisations and stakeholder groups attended the day-long conference.

Various presenters including Simon Nicks of CNdV Africa, the consultancy responsible for the drafting of the Provincial Spatial Development Framework presented at the summit.

Minister Essop addressed the media on the crucial nature of the summit and the expected outcomes. Mr Nicks also presented at the media briefing.

The briefing took place from 12.30, on November 25 on the 12th floor, Utilitas Building, 1 Dorp Street, Cape Town.
