Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport to Celebrate National Archives Week from 18-22 May 2009

MEC Sakkie Jenner, MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), proudly invite learners, students, researchers and all interested people to visit and tour the facilities of the Western Cape Archives to celebrate the role of the Archive in the Western Cape's history and heritage from 18-22 May 2009.

Some of the Province's oldest and most interesting records will be on display during this period which is also celebrated throughout South Africa, as National Archives Week. It however is essential to book a tour prior to your visit by contacting Siyabonga Ntamesi at 021 466 8122 or sntamesi@pgwc.gov.za.

As part of the celebrations a workshop on genealogy will be presented on 19 and 21 May 2009 from 8:30-12:00. Those interested can contact Mr J van der Merwe at 021 466 8117 or jfvdmerwe@pgwc.gov.za in this regard.

The media is invited to attend the official opening of the National Archives Week.
