Minister Winde to Take Steam Train Trip to Highlight Western Cape Heritage Rail Tourism

18 August 2012

On Sunday, 19 August 2012, Western Cape Minister for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, will embark on a journey from the centre of Cape Town to Simonstown - in a vintage coach pulled by a Class 24 steam locomotive.

The steam train, operated by Atlantic Rail (www.atlanticrail.co.za), runs on a bi-monthly basis along its scenic route from Cape Town - through Muizenberg, False Bay, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Glencairn to Simonstown.

Minister Winde will use the opportunity to highlight the importance of heritage rail tourism in the Western Cape and of South Africans embracing domestic tourism opportunities.

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
