Bonnytoun Re-opens

22 August 2012

On 17 July 2012, Bonnytoun celebrated its first year at the new location in De Novo. The occasion was officially celebrated on 14 August 2012 when Minister Albert Fritz unveiled a plaque commemorating the auspicious occasion.

He said, “I was one of you, roaming the streets looking for a school. You are the only one who can make your dreams come true. Start smelling the coffee of success.”

Clients and distinguished guests were regaled by *Simon, a client who had been a resident at the facility for four months. Simon represented the Department of Social Development at the Western Province Boxing Championship held in George on 14 May 2012.

“I have never had an opportunity like this in my life. The experience changed my life. When I leave here I will make a difference,” the young boxing star said.

Ms Esther Kuni, a colleague from the Bonnytoun child and youth care centre, told the audience that it was not easy coming to Kraaifontein. She said, “When I first saw the place it was strange with gates and keys. Adaptation and change is difficult to accept. With God’s grace, we are getting there.”

On behalf of the Department of Social Development, we would like to wish the staff and clients of Bonnytoun a very happy first year anniversary at the new location.
