Car Accident Injuring Deputy Minister will be Thoroughly Investigated

31 October 2009
The Minister for Community Safety, Adv. Lennit Max, is deeply shocked with the tragic accident in which the National Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Mrs. Zou Kota-Fredericks and her driver were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Sunday afternoon.

Two people in the second car were found dead by Traffic officials and rescuers.

Max said that human error as well as total disregard for the rules of the road are major contributors to the high accident rate on the province's roads.

The cause of the accident will be thoroughly investigated.

He appealed to all road users to exercise extra caution when driving and to consider the safety of other road users at all times.

Max said that Provincial Traffic has increased its visibility on all roads and stepped up its integrated Summer Operational Programme to minimise road trauma, accidents, injuries and fatalities

This is to ensure that all road users are brought safely home.
