Shopping Malls Safer for Festive Season with Help of Police and Public

The Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Adv. Lennit Max, express his appreciation to the management of shopping malls in the Western Cape on the productive relationship they have built with the South African Police and for their commitment to establish a safer shopping environment for the public.

 

Minister Max met with representatives of both shopping malls and cash in transit carriers earlier today to ascertain which measures are in place to beef up their security.

Max says that they (management) have a moral and legal obligation to safeguard shopping malls and that he is confident that effective security measures are in place to ensure that shoppers experience both a general feeling of safety and an enjoyable shopping experience.

He however cautioned that criminals also do their surveillance and that they will devise plans to put their greedy hands on the cash and property of hard working individuals. Although criminals have the desire to commit crime, they also need the opportunities to commit their criminal acts and these opportunities must be minimised.

He added that the surveillance technology of the police in the newly opened state of the art Command Centre in Cape Town will greatly assist all law enforcement to keep the shopping malls safer.

Max asked shoppers to be extra vigilant and not to create unnecessary opportunities for criminal elements to part them from their personal belongings and cash.

He urges mall tenants and shoppers to immediately report any suspicious activity at shopping malls to the police and mall security.
