"Rape Is Unacceptable" Says MEC Max

10 January 2010

Adv. Lennit Max, The Western Cape Minister of Community Safety condemns the alleged rape of a 19 year old girl from Atlantis.

Max wants to urge the victims that a thorough investigation will be done, to bring the alleged perpetrators to book and that no one is above the law.

"For to long society allowed rapists to invade innocent life's by not reporting these crimes and not protecting our children to the best of our abilities" says Max, The Minister of Community Safety. He also thanks the parents of the victim for assisting her in reporting the crime.

It is a tragedy that 530 children get raped daily and only 11.3% of these cases reported as indicated by the Police statistics for 2007/2008.

I urge victims to utilise the Victim Support Room at the Police Station. Trained volunteers and SAPS officials can and will assist with your immediate support, by giving you the necessary assistance.

"NO MERCY" as these rapists should be behind bars.
