Official Opening of Sport Multipurpose Centre at Gamka Primary School, Calitzdorp

25 February 2010

The Provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation, Mr Sakkie Jenner, opened a new multipurpose sport facility at Gamka East Primary School, Gamka, Calitzdorp, on Friday 26 February 2010. The facility is the result of a partnership between the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Garden Cities Foundation and the Lotto Fund.

According to Minister Jenner the Multipurpose Centre demonstrates in the most tangible way, what is possible when the private sector and government form partnerships aimed at improving the lives of people. "What is particularly heartwarming is that this facility was built at a rural school. We have no doubt that this facility will have a positive impact on the level of participation in organised sport in the school and community. Future sport stars can potentially be born here:" said Jenner.

The new facility in Calitzdorp will be able to accommodate a wide range of sport codes such as gymnastics, indoor soccer, tennis, table tennis, netball and basketball.
