Another 68 Drunk Drivers Arrested over Weekend by Provincial Traffic

27 August 2010

Provincial Traffic had 24 "Safely Home" roadblocks over the weekend. The objective of these roadblocks was to reduce road fatalities throughout the province over weekends.

Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement officials were out on full force and carried these roadblocks out at strategic locations. We screened 788 drivers for possible alcohol use and in the process arrested 68 drunk drivers. Four people were arrested for the possession of drugs, three had "dagga" and one had "tik". We also issued 1 076 fines for various contraventions of which 727 were speeding offences. The highest speed was 160 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.

Provincial Traffic will continue with these operations, till we have compliance with traffic laws.

Note: Please act responsibly so everybody can arrive "Safely Home".
