Provincial Traffic Screens Over a Thousand Drivers for Alcohol Over Weekend Operations
During a "Safely Home" operation, Provincial Traffic arrested twenty-two (22) drunk drivers, one (1) drunk pedestrian, four (4) persons for having drugs in their possession, one (1) motorist for having a fraudulent driving licence, one (1) motorist for driving reckless, and a trucker for overloading his heavy motor vehicle over the weekend.
One motorist that was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol was five (5) times over the legal limit at the time of the test.
In other operations six hundred and ninety-three (693) speed fines were issued, a motorist who travelled at one hundred and seventy kilometres per hour (170 km/h) in a hundred and twenty kilometres per hour (120 km/h) speed zone received a one thousand two hundred rand (R1200) fine.
Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement officials were deployed across the province to ensure that, motorists who break the law are dealt with. The Chief Director, Kenny Africa wants to ensure motorists who are law abiding road users that whoever puts that at risk will deal with the full force of the law. He says that road safety is everybody's responsibility and that together we can move towards responsible road behaviour.
