Premier Zille to become The First South African to Join the Johnnie Walker Join the Pact Campaign

1 November 2010

Today, Premier Helen Zille will become the first South African to sign the pledge wall of the Johnnie Walker Join the Pact campaign. She will be accompanied by Provincial Minister of Community Safety Albert Fritz and Provincial Minister of Transport Robin Carlisle.

The Join the Pact campaign was launched by Johnnie Walker five years ago and is aimed at getting individuals to pledge not to drink and drive. The campaign is being launched in South Africa as part of this year's FNB Whiskey Festival.

Premier Zille will also unveil alcohol beverage company Brandhouse's latest installation of its Drive Dry campaign, which aims to highlight the devastating consequences of drunk driving.

Both these campaigns are directly in line with the Western Cape Provincial Government's Safely Home campaign aimed at reducing the number of accidents and fatalities on our roads by 50% in 5 years.

All media are invited to attend the launch. There will be photo and interview opportunities.
