Inaugural Taxi Task Team makes progress on addressing priorities

Media Release by Ricardo Mackenzie, Western Cape Minister of Mobility

Today, I convened the first meeting of the Minibus Taxi Task Team with members from the Western Cape Government, City of Cape Town and SANTACO (South African National Taxi Council). This Task Team has been created to address the list of challenges relating to the minibus taxi industry agreed to at last week’s priority engagement.

I am encouraged by the constructive approach of all members to working together to resolve these issues. My mission is to ensure that people in the Western Cape have safe and reliable transport options for accessing opportunities. Mobility is a crucial enabler for economic growth and protection and creation of jobs.

We will proceed with regular Minibus Taxi Task Team meetings. My ongoing commitment to the sector and people of the Western Cape is facilitating a process that will result in meaningful outcomes for all role players.
