Construction of additional 100 new houses in Lutzville to commence

10 July 2022

The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements is proud to announce that, it will soon start with the building work of an additional 100 housing opportunities in Lutzville, which are scheduled to be handed over to residents from the community this financial year.

Construction at the Lutzville Housing Development Project began in 2019, with 327 housing opportunities guaranteed upon completion. The project has already delivered 100 houses and 327 sites, and is on track for full completion by the end of the 2024 financial year.

In this financial year, this development is expected to deliver a further 100 housing opportunities to deserving qualifying beneficiaries who will receive keys to their homes to mark a new chapter in their lives. The 100 housing opportunities will be delivered against a budget of R 20 363 000.

Provincial Minister of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers said; “It is great to see first-hand the delight and joy this development has brought to this community. Through this project we have not only changed the lives of the community by providing homes, but we’ve also managed to unlock economic opportunities for many job seekers and local entrepreneurs. I would like to commend the community, contractors and the spheres of government by working together and ensuring steady progress in this project. This has ensured that the development continues to grow and shows success”.

The project was recently approved for an expansion of an additional 35 service sites, that will coincide with the construction of the balance of 162 houses to mark the completion of the project, in the 2023/24 financial year, with 362 housing opportunities created. A budget of R 27 300 000 has been allocated for this. Through the project, economic opportunities have been unlocked for 18 Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME’s) and a creation of 93 local job opportunities to date.

“I look forward to returning to hand over more houses in this community soon. Upon completion this community will have a successfully appropriated Integrated Residential Development Programme (IRDP), with a portion of the houses designated for Military veterans and people living with disabilities, as well as the elderly,” concluded Simmers.
