Kraaifontein community gets dedicated vaccination centre

15 October 2021

The Kraaifontein community can now access vaccination services at the local day hospital at no cost.

This follows a generous donation from USAID. In partnership with Cipla, the facility now has mobile vaccination containers (VaccStations), which include four vaccination stations, two shaded waiting areas and two post-vaccination seating areas.

Previously, residents could only access vaccination services on Friday at the local day hospital. The site coordinator, Nursing Sr Lindy Mbhele, has encouraged the community to make use of the vaccination service.

“I want to encourage everyone in our Kraaifontein community, people in Bloekombos, Wallacedene, Northpine and beyond, come and get your free COVID-19 vaccine. While the vaccine can’t prevent you from getting COVID-19, it can prevent you from becoming very sick or being hospitalised due to the virus. Our doors are open from 08:00 – 15:00, Monday to Friday.”

Christell Rademan, aged 50, was one of the first community members to get her vaccination at the centre. Christell is a diabetic and is a COVID-19 survivor. She shares her experience: “I brought my family today, my husband and my daughter, so that all of us can be vaccinated against COVID-19. I contracted COVID-19 in July. It was terrible. I had headaches and felt very weak. My tongue was swollen, and I was confused during this time. It was not a good experience. I decided to get my vaccination to ensure that I never become this sick again due to COVID-19. I would encourage all members of the public, especially people who have diabetes like me or has a comorbidity, to get their vaccine. I was skeptical about the vaccine, but after being sick I decided I would get my vaccine. I want to be healthy for my family. If you want to be healthy for yours too, the vaccination is our best chance to fight the virus.”

If you are 18 years and older and you require your vaccination, visit our vaccination centre at the Kraaifontein Community Health Centre (day hospital). You do not need an appointment and our teams will provide registration support on site. Please bring your ID or passport, if you can.

Western Cape Government Health would like to thank USAID and Cipla for their generous support and partnership in our vaccination programme. We receive these donations with gratitude and will make use of the VaccStations to benefit the Kraaifontein community as we continue our fight against COVID-19.

*Community members are urged to remain vigilant after being vaccinated. Please continue to wear your mask, sanitise your hands regularly and avoid large crowds. For queries about vaccination, contact our call centre at 0860 142 142.
