Successful Thusong Outreaches held in the Beaufort West Municipality

6 August 2021

The Thusong Outreaches held in the Beaufort West Municipality attracted many community members who could access services from various Government Departments and partners, who exhibited and engaged with the community one on one.

The Merweville community in Beaufort West, had a Thusong Mobile on 22 June 2021 and Nelspoort community in the same Municipality had theirs on the 24th of June 2021. Both of these towns are among the most poverty stricken in the Central Karoo. In order to access government services people need to travel to Beaufort West or Laingsburg, which would be costly and require them to spend money that they do not have.

At the Thusong Outreaches in these towns, the Department of Employment and Labour, Easy Pay, SEDA, Disaster Management, Department of Agriculture, SASSA, Department of Agriculture Rural Development and Land Reform, the IEC, Department of Social Development, Home Affairs, Department of Human Settlement, MICTSETA, Department of Transport and Public Works, Department of Health, Right to Care and SARS were all in attendance.

One of the Thusong partners Easy Pay, which is part of the Net 1 Group of Companies and strives to provide secure affordable banking accounts to the un-banked handed out wheelchairs to Gloria Storm and Lilly Stemmel.

Storm, 47, who resides in Merweville has been immobile for the last few months due to illness and has struggled to leave the house.

Lilly Stemmel, 67, pictured  in the image gallery above with Easy Pay and Local Government Thusong Centre delegations in Nelspoort; has been in a wheelchair for approximately the last 18 months as she lost both of her legs to Diabetes. She has been very fearful of the old wheelchair she has been using since it provided no front safely to ensure she doesn't fall out of it.

Gloria and Lilly are both immensely thankful to Easy Pay for the wheelchairs and the Local Government Thusong Programme for bringing much needed services directly to people.

The Thusong Centre Outreaches reached approximately 436 men and women.
