PUBLIC NOTICE: ‘A little bit of home’ for Brackengate patients

30 July 2021

With winter well underway, the Brackengate Hospital of Hope will allow family members of patients to deliver sleepwear or bedwear, as well as comfortable shoes or bed slippers. The delivery of clean blankets or duvets will also be permitted.

These items will be sealed on discharge and washed at the patients’ homes after they have been discharged. Residents are encouraged to only bring bedwear for their loved ones during their stay at the hospital, and to avoid bringing items such as jeans or sneakers.

Healthcare heroes identified the need for patients to have comfortable sleepwear and bedding during their stay at the facility to keep residents warm and to bring “a little bit of home” to the facility. Brackengate CEO Maria Brink says security will accept the items on behalf of patients.

“The items may be brought to the facility. Security will decant the items into clear plastic bags before taking it in to the patient. Part of this decanting process will be to check for food. Unfortunately, we cannot allow food of any kind. All our patients are carefully monitored by our dietitians while at the facility for their optimal health. In addition, unfortunately, the facility cannot accept liability for any lost items, please do not bring any valuable items.”

Other items allowed for delivery include:

  • Cellphone
  • Charger
  • Spectacles
  • Toiletries
