Neighbourhood Watches can continue with patrols

The Minister of Community Safety, Albert Fritz, calls on all neighbourhood watches (NHW) accredited with the Department of Community Safety to obtain an Adjusted Level 4 Travel Permit, also known as Form 7; and continue patrols during the current Level 4 Lockdown announced by the President last night. 
 
Minister Fritz said, “NHWs do important work in being the eyes and ears of SAPS, and we are happy to report that they are still allowed, under the existing regulations, to continue their patrols. This will continue to help ensure safe communities.” 
 
Minister Fritz continued, “Should you have any further questions on whether your NHW structure can operate or on obtaining permits for members of your accredited NHW structure, you may contact the Department of Community Safety’s NHW unit by emailing Neighbourhood.watch@westerncape.gov.za We will assist in communicating any further information on this as we receive it. 
 
Minister Fritz concluded, “I would like to urge our NHW members to take every precaution and protect themselves against infection and transmission of Covid-19. This includes taking practical steps such as ensuring patrol vehicles do not transport more than the prescribed number of passengers, ensuring that patrollers wear masks correctly and sanitising regularly, and maintaining a safe social distance while out on patrol.”
