Media Alert: Upper-Austrian Brass Band to Play in Western Cape

The Upper-Austrian Band will be visiting the Western Cape from 16 to 20 April 2011 as part of the formal cultural exchange between the provinces of the Western Cape and Upper-Austria.

The Band will be performing at the Hugo Lambrecht Music Centre on Monday, 18 April 2011 at 19:30 and tickets are available from Merinda on tel no 021 939 9105 at the Music Centre. At the end of this concert they will be performing as a mass band with the Cape Town Concert Brass Band and 50 local learners who will be attending a workshop during the afternoon at the Music Centre. On 19 April 2011 a free concert will be held at the Endler Hall of the University of Stellenbosch in Stellenbosch at 13:00 and in the evening they will be performing at a charity concert on 19 April 2011 at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands. The Upper-Austrian Brass Band was founded in 2002 and is very popular in Europe. Many of its members are music teachers of brass instruments and percussion. Their conductor, Hannes Buchegger, has been involved in brass bands for 25 years, and world-known soloists such as Hans Gansch and Lito Fontana are also members of the the band. Since 2005 the band has participated in the European Brass Band Championships with great success; the band won twice in the B division and obtained a 3rd place in the champions' division at the contest in Linz, Austria, during 2010 when the city was the European Cultural Capital.

In September 2010, the Upper-Austrian Regional Government donated instruments to the value of R50 000 to the Hugo Lambrecht Music Centre in Parow.
