Media Alert: Male Circumcision Campaign Launch at Heideveld Community Health Centre

8 May 2011

The Western Cape Department of Health is embarking on a Medical Male Circumcision campaign from 12 to 19 May 2011. This campaign aims to encourage males to circumcise, which in turn reduces their chances of contracting HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.

The campaign will be launched at the Heideveld Community Health Centre. The Health Department will circumcise 50 people on the day. They will be given pre- and post-counselling before and after the procedure takes place. A doctor, nurse and professional sister will be on duty at the launch and will conduct the circumcision process.

This campaign will be rolled out to all Public Health facilities at no cost. It is open to everyone, all ages and all races. This is a safe, hygienic process done under medical supervision to ensure maximum results.
