Central Karoo sport federations bolstered through annual funding

16 April 2021

On Thursday, 15 April 2021, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport hosted the fourth of six ceremonial cheque handovers, where funding is handed over to sporting federations across the province.

Thursday’s ceremony saw Minister Anroux Marais handing over a total of R625 000 to the Central Karoo District Sport Council in Beaufort West. This funding will enable the affiliated sport federations to fulfill their mandate of developing and promoting their respective codes and clubs in the region.

During the keynote address, Minister Marais thanked our Sport and Recreation Directorate and District Sport Council, chaired by Mr David Maans, who have worked around the clock this past year to proactively respond to the unprecedented circumstances with innovative solutions as we understand that sport and recreation promote an ethos of lifelong activity and foregrounds social inclusion, wellness and expose youth to an environment that provides a healthy alternative to the social ills plaguing our society.

A total of approximately R12.9 million will be handed over to 145 affiliated sport federations across the province during this process. The next handover will take place in the Eden region on 19 April 2021.
