Launch of Road to Health Booklet Spells New Monitoring System for Child's Health

1 June 2011

Health Minister, Theuns Botha, hugs new mother, Nulovuyo Jacobs of Mitchell's Plain, at the handover of the new Road to Health booklet at Mowbray Maternity Hospital. With him is Dr Joey Cupido, responsible for District Health Services and Programmes, Stephen Titus, responsible for Comprehensive Health Programmes, and Jimmy Ledwaba, responsible for Health Programmes.

Minister Botha launched the Road to Health booklet that replaces the old growth charts. With every visit of a baby to a health facility, the baby's health progress will be carefully monitored and vaccinations will be noted.

Minister Botha said that the booklet has been designed over a long period to detect disease at an early stage. "I believe that the new booklet and the monitoring and evaluation system that it introduces will impact on the state of health of our children."
