The R33 between Vredenburg and Saldanha is due to be resealed soon.

The work is expected to be completed at the end of June 2021.

To enable resealing to take place, lane closures of one lane will be required in each direction. There will be two closures for 3 km in each direction, with a gap of 3 km between closures. At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times

To ensure the safety of the travelling public and the construction workers, the speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/h. The closures will be clearly signposted and pre-warning signs will also be erected.

It is a provision of the contract that traffic must be accommodated with the least delay and discomfort to the public. No full road closures will be allowed, except in emergencies. The safety and convenience of the travelling public is of utmost importance and every effort will be made to ensure that all temporary road signs, delineators and road markings are well maintained and effective and that courtesy is extended to the public at all times. The contractor is required to make use of approved methods to control the movements of equipment and vehicles so as not to constitute a hazard on public roads.

The public is requested to be patient and exercise caution when using sections where work is being done.

The speed limit in closures is 60 km/h. There will be no overtaking in the construction zones. The travelling public is urged to stick to the speed limits for their own safety and that of the construction workers.

Speed law enforcement will be undertaken from time to time. If the speed limit is not adhered to, the contractor will be forced to utilise stop/go controls to reduce the speed of vehicles.
