Media Alert: WCED to Launch the Encyclopedia Britannica Education Pilot Programme

30 June 2011

On Monday, 4 July 2011, Minister Donald Grant will be launching the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) Encyclopedia Britannica Education Pilot Programme at the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute.

Approximately 46 schools, winners of the 2010 literacy and numeracy awards, will take part in the pilot programme. Each school will be provided with unlimited access to the full Encyclopedia Britannica online service through the WCED's e-learning website.

As part of the programme, representatives from Britannica, who have flown in from the UK, and Sangari SA will be training teachers from the pilot schools on how to use the service in a series of interactive workshops. Once trained, they will bring these skills back to their schools to train other educators and learners on how to fully utilise the service and make use of the extensive range of research materials available.

The first training session will take place on Monday after the opening address.

Venue: Computer Lab, CEI Training Unit, Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI), Nooiensfontein Road, Kuils River
Date: Monday, 4 July 2011
