Minister Carlisle Cautions Rugby Fans to Get Safely Home after Tomorrow's Game

30 June 2011

Robin Carlisle, the Western Cape Government's Minister for Transport and Public Works, has urged rugby fans at tomorrow's Stormers versus Crusaders rugby game at Newlands "to make alternative arrangements for transport if they plan to drink".

Carlisle said: "It is the hope of the Western Cape Government and the Safely Home Road Safety Programme that we have a spectacular game."

"This is an opportunity to enjoy ourselves but, remember, whether you are celebrating or drowning your sorrows, that a jail sentence is only the turn of your ignition key away. You could end up killing someone."

"This is our year. To the fans - enjoy, celebrate, and whatever you do, make sure that you and your friends and loved ones get safely home. You don't want to end up in a jail cell instead of the comfort of your lounge."
