DSD’s NPO Help Desk reopens

6 October 2020

The Department of Social Development is pleased to announce that its NPO Help Desk has reopened, and is ready to assist NPOs with their queries.

The NPO Help Desk was established to assist with registration support, compliance status information, NPO training, and certificate distribution.

There are currently 233 399 organisations on the national NPO Register, who offer a broad range of services, not limited to the Social Development sector. Of that figure, just over 23 000 are based in the Western Cape.

The Department of Social Development works closely with, and funds 2 243 organisations to expand the network of services offered by the Department.

NPOs provide essential services to communities across the Western Cape, therefore it’s important that they always practise good governance, transparency and accountability.

As part of the national Know Your Status Campaign, NPOs are encouraged to use the provincial DSD NPO Help Desk to determine their compliance status. Many organisations have reported that they don’t know their status, or didn’t know they had to submit reports. Nationally, 54% are non-compliant. When NPOs visit the Help Desk, those with outstanding reports will be provided with the necessary support and documentation to facilitate compliance.

NPOs can access the service by visiting the walk-in centre during the times listed below, or by emailing npo.helpdesk@westerncape.gov.za
