Minister Anroux Marais: We mourn the loss of a champion of the arts

28 July 2020
The news of the passing of Dr David Piedt has been a shock for the community of Oudtshoorn, as well as the organisers of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK).

Dr Piedt, a former committee member of the board of the KKNK, was passionate about his community, as well as bringing arts and culture to Oudtshoorn via this festival. Earlier this year, Dr Piedt was honoured with a Kunste Onbeperk award for his contribution to the KKNK. His passion and unwavering commitment to the festival, as well as his compassion and empathy for those he met, were highlighted as reasons why he received this award.

Dr Piedt’s passing leaves a huge void in the arts community. He was a true role model as someone who believed in the beauty and power of the arts. The Western Cape Government mourns the loss of this great voice in the Western Cape.

Our condolences go out to Dr Piedt’s family, friends and all those he knew and worked with in the arts and culture sphere. He will be greatly missed.
