Western Cape Department of Agriculture supports SMME development

3 July 2020

Amidst Covid-19, the Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) continues to support and nurture Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) within the Western Cape's agricultural economy.

The Department believes that SMMEs have a vital role to play in job creation and economic growth.

The WCDoA offers various support programmes and interventions to facilitate the growth of SMMEs.

Support programmes focus on financing schemes, financial record-keeping, business analysis and planning, market development, market readiness and client support as well as support for agri-businesses. In response to the COVID–19 pandemic, the Department put together a booklet on "Financial Support Schemes during COVID-19".   The booklet can be accessed via the following link: http://www.elsenburg.com/sites/default/files/Financial%20relief-COVID-economics.3-20042020.pdf

Agribusiness support is also provided through training on agri processes related to the making of cheese, jam, yoghurt, juice and fruit drying.  For further information click on http://www.elsenburg.com/content/agri-processing

All these efforts contribute to growth in the agricultural and agri processing sector which is critical for jobs in the Western Cape.
