Minister Madikizela to inspect non-compliance in public transport

Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela will tomorrow, Thursday 4 June 2020, visit one of the hotspot areas from which is received a significant number of non-compliance complaints  concerning public transport.

Loading restrictions, hygiene and social distancing in public transport remain key focusses of the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the national lockdown.

Since the lockdown started, the Department has been engaging in public and transport operator education in partnership with bus operators and taxi associations. The Department has assisted public transport operators to comply with regulations and best practice by distributing masks, gloves and sanitiser. It has also established an effective USSD system for monitoring Covid-19 hygiene at public transport interchanges and which gives passengers a voice by sending free feedback on non-compliance in public transport.

Minister Madikizela will visit Nyanga Junction which has been identified by public transport users as one of the high risk areas where transport operators are not complying with the regulations.
