Cape metro housing database drive postponed due to national disaster declaration

As a result of the National Disaster Declaration, which limits the number of people who can gather, we must immediately postpone all planned Housing Demand Database (HDD) Drives, across the Cape Metro until further notice.

We thank all citizens who were looking forward to participating in the HDD for their understanding during this challenging period for the entire country. The Drive will recommence, the moment the declaration is lifted.

At this stage I encourage all citizens who might require housing assistance from Government to visit their nearest local housing office to either register for the first time, update or verify their details.

This past weekend’s Drive in Atlantis and Mamre saw 3 151 residents using the opportunity to either register or update their details. This brings the number of people that participated in the first three HDD’s across the Cape Metro, to 10 253.

I thank all communities who actively and in large volumes, participated in the HDD’s to date. The assistance, dedication and commitment from all Ward - and PR Councillors, City of Cape Town, Departmental officials and volunteers is highly appreciated.

We’ve adopted this radical implementation, innovative and integrated approach with all stakeholders, as we’re seeking to ensure that the housing waiting lists across the province is accurate and valid. It is critical for residents to know that we are a caring government.
