PC Petersen Primary School update

The Department of Transport and Public Works construction of the state-of-the-art, R51 million PC Petersen Primary School is expected to reach practical completion towards the end of April 2020 for phase 1 (school buildings) and practical completion at the end of July 2020 for the sport fields. This project will provide much-needed relief to the existing school and accommodate more pupils in a safe environment conducive to teaching and learning.

This replacement school will accommodate 620 learners (adding to the 580 learners accommodated in the existing school) and will have the potential for future expansion should the need arise. The hall is designed and built to accommodate 1 240 people, the total capacity should the school develop to it full potential.

The school buildings comprise a combination of standard plastered and painted stock brick construction and strip footings, with face brick infill panels and a klip-lok steel roof, while also boasting concrete columns and beams for improved stability, as well as steel trusses in the hall.

The replacement school consist of:

  • 16 standard classrooms (including 2 for Grade R)
  • 1 science laboratory
  • 1 multi-purpose classroom
  • 1 multi-media classroom
  • 1 hall with feeding kitchen and toilet facilities
  • An administration building
  • Caretaker's facilities
  • Sport field (Soccer/rugby)
  • 2 PT slabs for netball and related activities.

The design makes provision for after hour community training and usage with easy access to the hall, multimedia room and parking area without affecting the teaching facilities, such as classrooms and ablutions

The learners of this school can look forward to world-class learning and teaching facilities which will undoubtedly contribute to improved education outcomes. This replacement primary school is a much - needed addition to the Kylemore community and will be of service for years to come.
