Rehabilitation of Trunk Road 33 section 3 between Oudtshoorn to De Rust

The Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) is currently rehabilitating Trunk Road 33 Section 3 between Oudtshoorn (KM 1.9) to De Rust (KM 35.4).

The project started in June 2018 and is scheduled for completion in March 2020.

Roadworks include:

  • Widening and improving to Class I standard of road between Springbok Road in Oudtshoorn (km 1.9) and km 23 (approximately 3 km past the Dysselsdorp intersection),
  • Repairs and resealing the 11 km of existing road between the end of the widened section (km 23) and km 34 (De Rust),
  • Repairs and asphalt overlay of 1.4 km of road through De Rust from km 34 to the Willowmore intersection (km 35.4).

In addition to work on the main road itself, streetlighting, palisade fencing and pedestrian footpaths will be provided between Springbok Road (km 1.9) and the propose Rose Valley intersection (approximately km 5.09).

DTPW is committed to creating short-term employment and skills training opportunities. During the course of this project, a total of R34 133 088 will be spent on targeted enterprises, and 45 000 person-days of work will be created for people from Oudtshoorn to De Rust.

The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
