Cape film industry in the spotlight this First Thursday

2 September 2019

September’s First Thursday event will highlight the emerging technology and skills in the Western Cape’s film industry.

Those currently in the Western Cape film industry, students studying film and media, as well as those looking to break into the industry are urged to attend. The event is free and also open to all members of the public.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said: “The Western Cape is home to a thriving film industry, which contributes to economic growth and job creation. This exciting event will showcase all the different aspects of film-making including studios, wardrobe and props, augmented reality, virtual reality, gaming animation and drones. These are all areas where we can grow and develop skills as an additional offering to international film and media projects considering the Western Cape as a location.”

As with all Open Government First Thursday events, residents will have an opportunity to engage with Premier Winde, members of his cabinet and their various departments.

“We have made some changes to the event since the first one, and we will now have an automated numbering system, which will still work on a first come first serve basis. The Western Cape Government contact centre, situated in the Wale Street Concourse will now also be open for registration at any time of the day.”

“During our last First Thursday event, we recorded over 4000 requests and queries from visitors. We are pleased to see that members of the public are making use of the opportunity to meet with our government, and we hope to see many more new faces at next week’s event.”

The Red Tape Reduction Unit and Wesgro will both have service desks at the event.

Media and all members of the public are invited to attend.
