Minister Marais continues to prioritise transformation of heritage landscape

10 June 2019

MEDIA ALERT: MINISTER MARAIS CONTINUES TO PRIORITISE THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE WC CULTURAL HERITAGE LANDSCAPE

On Monday, 10 June 2019, Minister Anroux Marais, will officially roll out the Oral History Initiative in Mamre and thereafter launch the 2019 Museum Symposium in Caledon.

The Oral History Initiative aims to capture and preserve the unique stories of communities within the Western Cape. The launch will afford local community members the opportunity to share their valuable personal stories to be documented and preserved in the provincial archives for safekeeping.

Minister Marais calls on each citizen in the Western Cape to share their lived experiences at their local participating libraries. While promoting social inclusion through sharing our stories, we can also ensure that personal histories and experiences are kept alive in communities and within government so that future generations can celebrate their heritage.

The annual Museum Symposium serves as a platform to share experiences, models and ideas to further explore the benefits and challenges affiliated with the transformation of our cultural heritage landscape through our museum services.

Our Department has prioritised transformation through the renewal of displays and community consultation to ensure that our museums are a reflection of the heritage of all who call the Western Cape home.
