Media Alert: EMS Rescue Calls - 5 and 6 December 2011

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to two motor vehicle accidents recently:

Monday, 5 December 2011 - Corner of First Avenue and Granite Road in a side collision between a microbus and light van; EMS ambulance personnel transported three children under the age of five to Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital. A five-year-old male child sustained possible spinal and neck injuries, a two-year-old male child sustained a serious head injury and a four-month-old female child suffered a possible skull injury. Three adults (two females in a serious condition and one adult male) were transported by ER24 and another private ambulance service to Victoria Hospital.

Tuesday, 6 December 2011 at 02:33 - Corner of N1 108 and 115, Gugulethu, in a collision between a VW Golf and Mercedes; EMS rescue technicians freed the adult male driver from the VW Golf using the Jaws of Life. He suffered a serious laceration to his head and was transported to GF Jooste Hospital. The passenger in the VW Golf sustained minor injuries and was transported to GF Jooste Hospital. The driver of the Mercedes was unharmed and did not require medical transportation.
