Roadworks projects: N7 between Bosmansdam and Melkbosstrand

8 April 2019

The Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) has started two roadworks projects spanning 16 km of the N7: one between the Bosmansdam and Potsdam interchanges (6,4 km); and the other between the Potsdam and Melkbosstrand interchanges (9,6 km).

The project for the stretch between Bosmansdam and Potsdam is expected to be completed in April 2021. Work includes building two new bridge underpasses across the N7, the reconstruction of 2,9 km of the highway, and resurfacing from Bosmansdam to Plattekloof. Lane closures will take place at night until May 2019 to enable the resurfacing work to be done. Motorists can also expect temporary lane closures between 09:00 and 15:00 during this period. From May 2019, traffic of both carriageways will be diverted onto the inbound carriageway to enable reconstruction of the outbound carriageway.

The project for the stretch between Potsdam and Melkbosstrand is expected to be completed in July 2020 and entails the rehabilitation of the left lane, and the resurfacing of the right lane. Up to 2 km of single lane closures can be expected.

DTPW is committed to creating short-term employment and skills training opportunities. A combined total of 70 000 person-days of work will be created as a result of these projects, while up R64 million will be spent on targeted enterprises and suppliers.

The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
