Media Alert: Launch of Neighbourhood Watch Volunteersim Campaign

27 March 2019

Tomorrow, 28 March 2019, Minister of Community Safety, Alan Winde will launch the Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Volunteerism campaign at the River Club, Observatory.

The launch forms part of the Department’s efforts to professionalise NHW’s with the objective of enhancing the image of the programme and re-enforcing safety messaging and initiatives within communities. Through the launch of the NHW Volunteerism Campaign, the Department will encourage and increase community participation thereby enabling greater safety at Neighbourhood level.

Minister Winde said: “The community volunteer safety structures are essential cogs in the fight against crime, and have already demonstrated how effective they are in this regard. The 2017/18 crime statistics, shows that through their visibility and patrols in communities, property related crimes, which includes residential- and business burglary and the theft of-and out of a motor vehicle, were reduced by 6,8%.”

The launch, which will be attended by 209 Metro structures, will include various presentations, exhibitions and a panel discussion.

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

ALL MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.
