Notice of detours, deviations and stop/ go controls in Calitzdorp

Divisional Road 1688 between Calitzdorp and the Calitzdorp Spa turn-off, also known as the concrete road, is being rehabilitated. The project is expected to be complete in April 2020.

While work is under way, there will be a detour for the first 1 km section, deviations, and half-width construction in lengths of up to 2 km with stop/ go controls to manage the flow of traffic.

The section of Divisional Road 1688 under rehabilitation starts at km 1.00 just outside Calitzdorp and ends at km 15.64 at the Calitzdorp Spa turn-off, a distance of approximately 14,64 km.

While work is under way, there will be a detour for the first 1 km section, deviations, and half-width construction in lengths of up to 2 km with stop/ go controls to manage the flow of traffic.

The following major operations will be undertaken:

  • Breaking up concrete slabs,
  • Removing and replacing culvert structures,
  • Widening a bridge and major culverts,
  • Crushing and re-using material from screen concrete slabs,
  • Constructing a new C4 sub base,
  • Constructing a new G4 crushed stone base,
  • Sealing a new base course with 14 mm Cape Seal,
  • Constructing new concrete and stone pitched side drains, and
  • Completing miscellaneous items, including fencing and guardrails.
