Notice of stop/ go controls on R60

21 February 2019
R60 roadworks Roadworks

Stop/ go controls will be put in place on the R60 between Ashton and Swellendam between February 2019 and April 2019.

Please allow for additional travel time on this road as delays can be expected.

Maintenance work has become necessary on the R60 between Ashton and Swellendam. This includes repairing localised failures and resurfacing the road. The contract to perform this work has been awarded to WTW (Pty) Ltd, and the expected completion date is March 2020, if everything goes according to plan.

This work requires half-width closures (closing one lane so that work can be done on the other lane) with stop/ go controls to manage the flow of traffic. No full lane closures are permitted. There will be a maximum of three half-width closures in operation at any time.

The safety and convenience of the travelling public are of utmost importance. It is a provision of the contract that traffic must be accommodated with the least delay and discomfort to the public. Every effort will be made to ensure that all temporary road signs, cones, flag operators and speed controls are maintained and are effective, and that courtesy is extended to the public at all times.

The contractor is required to make use of approved methods to control the movement of equipment and vehicles so as not to constitute a hazard on public roads.
Please allow for additional travelling time on the R60 during this time as delays can be expected.

Please be patient and exercise caution when using the road.
