16 January 2012

Media Statement by Robin Carlisle, Minister of Transport and Public Works

Robin Carlisle, the Minister for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape, has said, "Based on the gazetted regulations, all designated emergency vehicles are exempt from Chappies toll fees."

"This includes the South African Police Service (SAPS) and South African National Defence Force (SANDF), provincial and municipal law enforcement and traffic vehicles, as well as the emergency vehicles of the Provincial Health Department and the City of Cape Town," Minister Carlisle said.

"Private ambulances are not exempt. However, private ambulance companies are welcome to contact me to discuss a review of the current exemption policy."
